Audrey C. Hazen

Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin Audrey C. Hazen, 86, of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, formerly of Wauzeka, Wisconsin, died Tuesday, November 12, 2013, at Epione Pavilion in Cuba City. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 16, 2013, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Wauzeka with Pastor Lynn Schreck officiating. Burial will be in the Wauzeka Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Friday at Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City. Friends may also call from 9-10:45 a.m. Saturday at the church before the service. Audrey was the only daughter, with six brothers, born on February 15, 1927, to Sidney and Alma (Strong) Taylor on a farm in rural Patch Grove, Wisconsin. She graduated from Patch Grove High School in 1944. On January 18, 1947, she married Leslie Jr. "Juney" Hazen in Patch Grove. They lived all of their married lives in Wauzeka where Juney ran a candy delivery business, Hazen's Confections. Audrey worked at Travel-Mat in Prairie du Chien and later at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital as a transcriptionist in medical records. Three sons were born, Gary, Jack and Paul. Jack died on August 29, 1968, in a swimming accident. Audrey loved to dance, play cards, bake and sew. She and Juney were part of a square dancing group and in one card club for 60 years. Audrey was a member of the Wauzeka United Methodist Church. Audrey loved her granddaughters and enjoyed her great-granddaughters. Survivors include two sons, Gary (Barb) Hazen, of Cuba City, and Paul Hazen, of Washington, D.C.; three granddaughters, Melanie (Keith) Vonachen, of Sagle, Idaho, Stephanie (Ruben) Chancy, of Denver, Colorado, and Rachel Hazen, of New York City, NY; three great-granddaughters, Mira and Solenne Vonachen, and Vida Chancy; two brothers, Gene (Pat) Taylor, of Clinton, WI, and David (Sheila) Taylor, of Tomah, WI; and her brothers and sisters-in-law, Myra Lang, Bob and Pat Hazen, Virgie Taylor and Lorainne Taylor. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leslie "Juney", in 2000; a son, Jack; four brothers, Bernard (in childhood), Herbert, Lauren and Arden Taylor; and several brothers and sisters-in-law. An Audrey Hazen Memorial Fund has been established for the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Wauzeka. Memorials may be sent to the Audrey Hazen Memorial Fund, 512 S. Splinter St., Cuba City, WI 53807 The family would like to thank the staff at both Walter Schmidt Independent Living in Prairie du Chien and Epione Pavilion in Cuba City for the wonderful care given to our mother.
