Bernard F. “Bernie” Hentrich, 88, of Hazel Green, Wisconsin, passed away Friday, November 1, 2024. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Hazel Green, with Rev. Peter Auer officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 5, and from 9-10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 6 at Casey-McNett Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Cuba City, Wisconsin.
Bernie was born on November 7, 1935 in Platteville, Wisconsin, the son of John and Ruth (Wiederholt) Hentrich. He was united in marriage to Doris Abing on October 29, 1957 at St. Andrew Church in Tennyson, Wisconsin.
Bernie worked at the Dubuque Packing Company before farming in Potosi and then in Cuba City. He then worked at the Elmo Club prior to owning and operating the Coach-N-Four Supper Club with Doris for 28 years. Bernie also delivered fertilizer and corn for the Hazel Green Feed Mill and plowed snow for the Hazel Green Township. He was a member of the Hazel Green Lion’s Club, Hazel Green Fire Department, Tavern League of Wisconsin, and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed golfing and once made a hole-in-one. Bernie was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs, often taking his family to Wrigley Field. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, including boating on the river every Tuesday and Wednesday, helping other farmers, and attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events.
Bernie is survived by his wife, Doris Hentrich, Cuba City, WI; five children, Pam Kieler, Cuba City, WI, Dan (fiancée, Ann Neis) Hentrich, Lancaster, WI, Dave (Liz) Hentrich, Stoughton, WI, Dale (Natalie) Hentrich, Bartlett, IL, and Paula (Todd) Timmerman, Dickeyville, WI; a brother, Joe (Margaret) Hentrich, Belmont, WI; a sister, Barb (Bob) Hale, Platteville, WI; 14 grandchildren, Kelly (Mat) Hennings, Katelyn (Cade) Shatzer, Danielle (Tyler) Whitish, Haley (Grant) Reynolds, Zach (friend, Annalise) Hentrich, Josh Hentrich, Andy (Kelly) Hentrich, Maggie (Parker) Rabe, Matthew Hentrich, Hannah (Ben) Birchman, Jill Hentrich, Heidi Hentrich, Ryan Timmerman and Jacob (MaKenna) Timmerman; 9 great-grandchildren, Hudson and Emry Hennings, Cora Shatzer, Blake Whitish, Rhett Reynolds, Evan Hentrich, Ellis and Salome Rabe, Remi Timmerman, and four more on the way; and Doris’ siblings, Luella Brant, Kieler, WI, Irvin Abing, Potosi, WI, Margaret (Joe) Hentrich, Belmont, WI, Jim Jungk, Dubuque, IA, Bernadette Abing-Williams, Lancaster, WI, and Paulette Abing, Potosi, WI.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruth Hentrich; his parents-in-law, Charles and Martha Abing; Doris’ siblings, Marie (Harold, Jukes) Kalmes-Herrig, Berniece (Eddie, Eldon) Kieler-Kaiser, Betty Jungk, Leo Abing, Don Williams, Cyril (Florentine) Abing, Irene (Clarence) Seng, Richard Abing, Melvin Brant, and Katie Abing; and a nephew, Joey Hentrich.
The family would like to thank the staff of Luther Manor Nursing Home for their exceptional care of Bernie; the staffs of St. Croix, Agrace and Dubuque Hospices; and special caregivers, Sandy, Jerry, Rhonda, Michelle, Hailey, Anthony, Jane, Tammy and Char.
