Carl J. Shepherd

Carl J. "Buck" Shepherd, 79, of Benton, Wisconsin, died Thursday, December 12, 2013, at Lancaster Care Center in Lancaster. Services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 16, 2013, at Centenary United Methodist Church, in Shullsburg, with Pastor Dan Verdegan officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Shullsburg. Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City. Friends may also call after noon Monday at the church. Carl was born on July 8, 1934, in Benton, Wisconsin, the son of Orville A. and Alice H. (Lorenz) Shepherd. He married Gladys A. Green on September 3, 1955, in Galena, Illinois. She preceded him in death on November 2, 2011. Carl farmed, did carpentry, and worked at Dubuque Insulation and Siding Company (DISCO) from which he retired. Carl enjoyed woodworking, horses, softball and the Packers. His family, especially his grandkids, and his friends were important to him. His wife, Gladys, was a musician and performer. He loved listening to her music and dancing. Carl was a member of the Oddfellows. Survivors include two daughters, Jacki Hardy, of Platteville, and Juli (Melvin) Kopp, of Lancaster; five sons, John Shepherd, of Potosi, Jim Shepherd, of Dodgeville, Gary Shepherd, of Waupon, Chris Shepherd, of Red Wing, Minnesota, and Robert (Amanda) Shepherd, of Rice Lake; five sisters, Cleone McCoy, of Shullsburg, Belva Farrey, of Benton, Dorothy (Roger) Isely, of Darlington, Joan Breitzman, and Sue (Bruce) McClain, both of Red Wing, Minnesota; eighteen grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents; an infant grandson, Carl Anthony Shepherd; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Shepherd; a brother, Paul Shepherd; a sister, Della Hocking; and an infant brother and sister. A Carl J. "Buck" Shepherd Memorial Fund has been established.
