Chloe I. Birkett, 68, of Benton, Wisconsin, died Tuesday, November 10, 2009, at Southwest Health Center Nursing Home in Cuba City. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 14, 2009, at the United Methodist Church in Benton with Pastor Rodney Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Hazel Green Cemetery. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Friday at Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City. Friends may also call from 9-10:15 a.m. Saturday at the church. Chloe was born on August 15, 1941, in Dubuque, the daughter of William and Elizabeth “Evelyn” (Baker) Gregory. She married Robert Birkett on December 6, 1958. He preceded her in death on June 9, 1994. In addition to being a housewife and mother of four, Chloe had a variety of interests and abilities. She worked as a bartendress, waitress, seamstress, floral assistant and was owner of a craft shop for 20 years. Chloe’s most cherished passions in life included spending time with her children, grandchildren and felt blessed to have a great-grandchild. She also loved spending time with her husband making crafts, camping with friends and family, playing cards and encouraging an exciting game of dominoes. In recent years she was very involved with supporting the local “meals on wheels” program for senior citizens by volunteering as a cook and in the delivery of the meals. Survivors include four sons, James Birkett, of Winnebago, Wisconsin, William (Diana) Birkett, of Stony Creek, Virginia, Tracy (Angie) Birkett, of Imperial, Missouri, and Terry (Allison) Birkett, of Helotes, Texas; three half-sisters, Wilma (Mike) Mantch, of Rockfalls, Illinois, Teresa “Tess” (Don) Taylor, of Freeport, Illinois, and Nanette Olson, of Dubuque; three half-brothers, Curtis (Janice) Olson, of Largo, Florida, Noel (Marty) Olson, of Valrico, Florida, and Kevin (Gail) Olson, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and her beloved cat “Scoops”. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Cleo Heins, and a brother, Michael Gregory.
