Dickeyville, Wisconsin Dallas A. Millard, 85, of Dickeyville, Wisconsin, died Sunday, May 13, 2018, at Manor Care Health Services in Platteville after a short battle with cancer. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 17, 2018, at Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City with Rev. Bernard Rott officiating. Burial will be in Holy Ghost Cemetery in Dickeyville. Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2018, at the funeral home where a prayer service will be held at 3:45 p.m. Friends may also call from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home before the service. Dallas was born on May 20, 1932, in Livingston, Wisconsin, the son of Alden M. and Mary (Knutson) Millard. Dallas graduated from Livingston High School and was employed for most of his working career at Dubuque Packing Company. He married Rita A. Trace of Dodgeville on July 2, 1955, in Dodgeville, Wisconsin, and they raised their four children in Dickeyville. She preceded him in death on November 8, 2003. Dallas served in the US Navy Reserve from 1949-1955. Dallas was an avid volunteer. He served as the mayor of Dickeyville for nine years and served on the Dickeyville-Paris Fire Department for 55 years, where he served as secretary for many years. He was also on the boards of the Grant County and State Fire Fighter Associations. Dallas also received the award for the Wisconsin Volunteer Firefighter of the Year in 1993. Dallas was a Boy Scout Leader for many years and on the Board of Directors for the Cuba City Health Center. Dallas and Rita were also foster parents for 30 years to many children. Dallas loved to deer hunt and enjoyed giving his grandchildren and great-grandchildren dollars and tootsie rolls. He also enjoyed Friday night fish fries with his brothers and family. Survivors include three daughters, Deb (Dan) Klein, of Platteville, Denise (Scott McCabe) Vacha, of Livingston, and Donna (Thomas) Bohnenkamp, of Dickeyville; a son, David (Connie) Millard, of Colona, Illinois; two brothers, Donnie (Janet) Millard, of Platteville, and Dennis (Joan) Millard, of Dodgeville; nine grandchildren, Alan (Lacee) Millard, Darwin (Michelle) Millard, Chad (Alyssa) Millard, Erin Klein, Matt (Trisha) Klein, Leah (Jordan) Klein, Courtney (Chad) Carns, Curtis (Rebecca) Vacha, and Dakota Gladwin; and 20 great-grandchildren and one due soon. Dallas was preceded in death by his wife of many years, Rita; his parents, Alden and Mary Millard; his brothers, Dean, Darold, and Davon; and a son-in-law, Mike Vacha. He was also preceded by in-laws, John and Mary Trace, Joanne Millard, Bob and Sharon Trace, Wilbur "Junior" Evans, Bob Houselog, Ernest "Gene" Trace, Richard "Dick" Trace, Jerry Rundle, and William Trace. A Dallas A. Millard Memorial Fund has been established.
