Danny was born on February 23, 1948, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Andrew and Elsie (McPhail) Helbing. He married Mary Therese Hesseling on September 18, 1971, at Holy Ghost Church in Dickeyville. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Danny was a loving husband and father. In his free time he enjoyed cruising with Mary in his 1970 Oldsmobile 442 Convertible and socializing with the people he loved. Danny was a very unselfish person always putting the needs of others before his own. As a patriot, he was proud of his service and promoted respect for the flag. Survivors include his wife, Mary; three sons, Brian, of Dickeyville, Tim (Marina), of Peoria, AZ, and Chad (special friend, Pam Marshall), of Cottage Grove, WI; a brother, Doug Helbing, of Mandan, ND; and three grandchildren, Gavin, Vivian and Olivia. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, LaVern Hill; three brothers, Ronnie, Jerry and Orton Helbing; and two sisters, Connie Hill and Marilyn McKillip. A special thank you to all the family and friends for their love and support through this difficult time. We wish to thank Grant County Hospice, and the doctors, nurses and staff at the Madison VA Hospital and UW Madison Clinics.
