David “Dave” Chris Baus, age 69, passed away on Saturday, January 21st, 2017 while vacationing in Fort Myers Beach, Florida during a round of golf with his beloved wife, Claudia, and their long-time friend and brother-in-law, Denny. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday January 28, 2017, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Cuba City, Wisconsin, with Father Dave Flanagan officiating. The family will receive friends at Casey Funeral Home in Cuba City on Friday from 3-7 p.m. where the parish wake service will be at 2:45 p.m. Friends may also call at St. Rose Catholic Church Saturday morning from 9-10:15 a.m. before the service. Dave was born July 5th, 1947, to Lambert and Garlyn (Winchell) Baus. Growing-up, he was an avid athlete in football, as well as track-and-field. Dave was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1967 and trained as an army medic in the 5th Infantry Division, “Red Diamond”. He was assigned first to The Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Denver, Colorado, and then to Quang Tri, Vietnam. After the completion of his service, he married his high school sweetheart, Claudia Dietmeier in Lancaster, WI. on January 11th, 1969. After several years of apprenticeship, Dave became a Master Plumber. He fulfilled his entrepreneurial spirit with Claudia’s love and support and together they owned and operated Baus Plumbing & Heating for 38 years in Cuba City, WI. His true character showed with his family, customers, and friends as a man of “many words” and a lot of laughter. When Dave put his tools and pump rig to rest, he enjoyed spending time with his loved ones while boating, fishing, golfing, and shelling. During his retirement, he was reconnecting with old friends back in Wisconsin, and catching-up with current friends in Florida. He found joy in his role as Grandpa over the past twenty-six years to his “Abigail”, and most recently to his three “little darlings”, who are five, four, and two years old. He had also accepted and planned to officiate his oldest granddaughter’s wedding scheduled for August. He had brought another collection of books with him for this winter to read, while listening to the sound of the waves and the calls from the seagulls, in between his rounds of bocce ball. He looked forward to gathering seashells and finding those precious sand dollars. Dave is survived by his wife, Claudia; son, Brian Baus; and daughters, Amy (Joe Kennicker) Baus and Emily (Brandon) Nix. He is further survived by four granddaughters, Abbey (Jakob Stein) Baus, Maddey Kennicker, and Harlow & Hathaway “Hattie” Nix. He was a friend and loving brother to his seven sisters and brothers, Sandy (Roger) Grade, Barbara (Dennis) Rewey, Phillip (Kaye) Baus, Christine (Terry) Clauer, Daniel (Dawn) Baus, Timothy (Lorinda) Baus, and Mary (Randy) Henderson. He and his siblings had recently grieved the loss of his brother, Dan, unexpectedly in November, 2016. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the children of St. Rose of Lima School and Cuba City Elementary School. “A simple life is good with me. I don’t need a lot. For me, a t-shirt, a pair of shorts, barefoot on the beach, and I am happy.”
