Benton, Wisconsin Dennis J. Lewis, 66, of Benton, Wisconsin, died Wednesday, August 24, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque, Iowa. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 29, 2016, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Cuba City with Rev. David Flanagan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Sunday, August 28, 2016, at Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City where the parish wake service will be at 2:30 p.m. Friends may also call from 9:15-10:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home before the service. Dennis was born on September 21, 1949, in Cuba City, Wisconsin, to James W. and Alverna J. (Ginter) Lewis. He graduated from Cuba City High School in 1967. He then graduated from the Colorado School of Trades in 1969 receiving a Gunsmithing Degree. Dennis worked as a gunsmith all his life. He was employed by John Deere Dubuque Works for 42 years as a tool and die maker. Dennis loved riding motorcycles and in 1973 he started the Matador Motorcycle Club. Besides being an original member, he also was a founding member of the corporation. He was a lifetime member of the NCOWS (National Congress of Old West Shootists) and participated in many gun tournaments often placing in the top three. Dennis was a loving, compassionate and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, son and brother and will be truly missed by those who treasured him the most. His grandchildren Sylvia, Wyatt, Sunny and Lotus were absolute joys for him. He thought the world of all four of them. Survivors include his wife, Elaine Gardner Lewis; his children, James Edward (Heidi) Lewis, of Suamico, WI, and Katie (Matt) Cooperstein, of Redondo Beach, CA; four grandchildren, Sylvia and Wyatt Lewis, and Sunny and Lotus Cooperstein; his mother, Alverna Lewis, of Cuba City, WI; four sisters, Diane (Jeff) Cole, of Cuba City, WI, LeaAnn (Dave) Baker, of Plover, WI, Laurie (Ben) Goeman, of Chippewa Falls, WI, and Donna (Randy) Wisdom, of Cuba City, WI; and two sisters-in-law, Patricia Casey, of Houston, TX, and Marion Eilken, of Des Plaines, IL. He was preceded in death by his father, James William Lewis; two brothers-in-law, Ron Eilken and Norman Gale Casey; and many aunts and uncles. A memorial fund has been established in his name. The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Hermann and the staff of Grand River Medical Group for the excellent care provided during the last two years. Our thanks also to each and every person from Hospice of Dubuque and Mercy 3 West, these incredible people provided endless amounts of compassion and comfort in his final days.
