Dennis N. Averkamp

Shullsburg, Wisconsin Dennis N. Averkamp, 82, of Shullsburg, Wisconsin, passed peacefully Sunday, July 17, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque. Services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at St. Patrick’s Church in Benton, Wisconsin, with Rev. Francis Steffen officiating. Friends may call between 11:00 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick’s Church. The family will have a private burial. Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Benton is in charge of arrangements. Dennis was born on March 15, 1929, in Dickeyville, Wisconsin, the sixth child of ten children, to Anton and Catherine (Reuter) Averkamp. Dennis graduated from Cuba City High School and dedicated most of his life to his love for farming. He married Ruth Milner on October 24, 1951, at St. Patrick’s Church in Benton. Together they had four children, Lonnie, Debra, Patricia and Paula. Dennis served multiple terms as Shullsburg Township supervisor. His life was family and farming. He dearly loved his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Ruth, of Shullsburg; his children, Lonnie (Marilyn) Averkamp of Golden, Mississippi, Debra Averkamp and Patricia Malone, both of Benton; and Paula (fiancé, Jeff Marsh) Averkamp, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin; two sisters, Kathleen “Kay” Geltz, of Marinette, Wisconsin, and Lucy Berra, of Texas; a brother, Joe Averkamp, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin; nine grandchildren, John and Joe Averkamp, Jim, Kevin and Alicia Farrey, Erin, Lauren and Megan Malone, and Dasha Averkamp. Dennis was preceded in death by three sisters, Genevieve Walton, Margie Beau, and Marie Curtis; and three brothers, Edward, Ben and Eugene Averkamp. Dennis’ family wishes to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff at Mercy Hospital in Dubuque.
