Diane was born on August 9, 1954, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Albert “Al” and Elizabeth “Betty” (Dieser) Kern. She married Charles “Chuck” Stewart on September 17, 1977, at St. Rose of Lima Church in Cuba City. Diane worked most recently at Lands End in Dodgeville. Diane’s years of dedicated service to her church and her life’s dedication to her Lord meant so much to her. Her beloved husband and son were the essence of her life. Diane looked at her cancer as a gift and a way to honor God. She hoped her cancer would help educate all people to early detection of all forms of cancer. Survivors include her husband, Chuck, of Cuba City; her son, Alex, at home; her parents, Al and Betty Kern, of Cuba City; two brothers, Mike (Roberta) Kern, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Greg (Kate) Kern, of Cuba City; her mother-in-law and stepfather-in-law, Barbara and Joe Wackershauser, of Prairie du Chien; a sister-in-law, Jan (Steve) Trentz, of Platteville; two brothers-in-law, Mike (Marsha) Stewart, and Kelly (Sheri) Stewart, both of Platteville; and many special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother Michael Joseph and her father-in-law William Stewart. In lieu of flowers, a Diane M. Stewart Memorial Fund has been established. The family would like to thank her special nurse, Kate Kern; Hospice of Dubuque, especially Barb, Stephanie, Dawn and Mary; Dr Schultheis and his staff; Rob and Laurie Toth; and many friends for their care and commitment during Diane’s illness.
