Dwight E. Eggers Sr.

December 15, 1925 — March 30, 2010

Dwight E. Eggers Sr., 84, of Cuba City, Wisconsin, died Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at Manor Care Health Services in Dubuque. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at St. Rose of Lima Church in Cuba City with Rev. David Flanagan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Monday, April 5, 2010, at Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City. Friends may also call from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home before the service. Dwight was born on December 15, 1925, in Prescott, Wisconsin, the son of Ernest O. and Myrtle (Baney) Eggers. He attended grade school and high school in Prescott, graduating in 1943. He married Leona C. Killian in Mineral Wells, Texas, on November 9, 1945, before shipping overseas during World War II. Dwight entered the Army in July 1944, serving overseas from December 1945 until September 1946. Dwight was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in August of 1946. He was called back to duty during the Korean War in December of 1950 and was released from active duty in 1951. Dwight worked at Jacques Seed Company from 1947-1991 (except for Korean War duty), first in warehousing, then semi truck driving, and then sales. In 1960 Dwight and Leona moved to Cuba City where Dwight was the location manager of the Cuba City Jacques Plant, retiring in 1991. During his years as location manager in Cuba City, Dwight and Leona went on many company trips including Hawaii, Mexico, and Jamaica. They also attended many of Jacques National Sales Meetings throughout the United States. While living in Prescott he was a member of the Prescott Fire Department and the Prescott American Legion. Dwight joined the Cuba City Lions Club in 1969, serving as president, as secretary for eleven years, and as an active member of many committees. He served as District Cabinet Secretary from 1980-1981 and as District 27-D1 Governor from 1996-1997. Dwight was also of member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, where he served as an usher. His hobbies included woodworking (Packer and Badger clocks were his specialty) and making many different items for family and friends. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Leona; four children, Diane (Dick) Gile, of Hazel Green; Dwight (Donna) Eggers Jr. and Randy Eggers, both of Cuba City; and Kim (Mary Jo) Eggers, of Marshall; a sister, Duthiel Pinke, of Prescott; fourteen grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marjorie Travis; and a grandson, Joshua Eggers. A Dwight E. Eggers Sr. Memorial Fund has been established.
