Cuba City, Wisconsin Earl C. Kunkel, 85, of Cuba City, Wisconsin, died Thursday, March 15, 2018, at Epione Pavilion in Cuba City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 19, 2018, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Cuba City with Rev. David Flanagan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery following the funeral with military honors accorded by American Legion Henry Pinch Post #104 and VFW Post #8318. The family will greet friends from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at St. Rose of Lima Church in Cuba City where the parish wake service will be at 1:45 p.m. Friends may also call from 9:30-10:15 a.m. Monday at the church before the service. Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Cuba City is in charge of arrangements. Earl was born Earl Chris Kunkel on October 8, 1932, to Martin and Mildred (Lenstra) Kunkel in Dubuque, Iowa. He grew up in Kieler and attended St. Mary's Grade School in Kieler. On December 31, 1955, he married Nancy Hauser to whom he was married for nearly 62 years. Nancy pre-deceased him on November 2, 2017. Earl served in the US Army from 1953-1955, returning to Kieler to run the Kieler Feed Mill. In 1966 he started as a rural mail carrier, working delivering mail on RR#1 Cuba City for over 30 years. He loved delivering mail and knowing the families (and dogs) on his route over the years. After retiring from the post office, he drove cars with Tri-State Auction, a job he loved. He volunteered for the Jamestown and Cuba City Fire Departments and the Cuba City Rescue Squad. Earl was president of the board of the Cuba City Apartments and also served as the commander of Henry Pinch Post #104 of the American Legion for many years. Those left to honor his memory are his children, Jill Kunkel, San Diego, Nicholas (Joelle Kotecki) Kunkel, Madison, and Peter Kunkel, Cuba City; and one grandchild, Charles Peter Kunkel of Madison. Also surviving are his siblings, Edward (Pat) Kunkel, Dubuque, Marlene (George) Schuster, Kieler, Martin (Jeanne) Kunkel, Kieler, Patsy (Bob) Tigges, Dubuque, Judy (Don) Takes, Hazel Green, Cookie (Bill) Busch, Dickeyville, and Randy (Kim) Kunkel, Dubuque; a brother-in-law, Harry Kruser, Kieler; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a son, Daniel Earl Kunkel; his parents, Martin and Mildred Kunkel; a sister, JoAnn Kruser, a sister-in-law, Norma Kunkel, a brother-in-law, Roger Budden, and his in-laws, David (Wilma) Hauser and John (Carolyn) Hauser. Memorials for Earl Kunkel may be made to the Cuba City Fire Department. The family of Earl would like to thank the staff of Epione Pavilion for the kind and loving care he received over the past years.
