He married Mary Lee Boever on June 30, 1956, in Kieler, Wisconsin. Relationships with family and friends were the center of Earl’s life. He was happiest when whole crowds of people gathered at his house for any reason at all. Earl’s career was spent working at the Dubuque Pack and Dubuque Inn, and raising many horses on his farm in Kieler, a farm known for its long, white, lighted fence along the driveway. He created some of his greatest memories going to lunch with Joe and Larry, coon hunting with his brother, Mike, and working with his horses with grandson Chad and nephew Nick. Surviving Earl are three children, Roxie (Keith) Vaassen of Dickeyville, Jeff (Jean) Lange of Dubuque, and Vickie (Jay) Runde of Mineral Point; his grandchildren, Casey (Brooke) Sweet, Chad (Connie) Vaassen, Chris Sweet, Cody (Jen) Sweet, Jeff Sweet, Jesse (Nicole) Sweet, Travis (Kira) Runde, Kayla (Michael) Gee, Ben (Lauren Kramer) Lange, Jaycie Runde, Jason (Susan) Richard, Stacy (Andrew) Portzen and Brian (Brianna) Richard; his 28 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Pat Dreessens, Rosalyn Haug, Doris (Bill) Wiederholt, Ron Lange, Sam (Marlene) Lange, Delia Schroeder, Jean Lange, Lu Lange, and Mike (Doris) Lange. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lee; his children, Sharon Sweet and Rosie, Rhonda, and Jerry Lange; his granddaughter, Kelli Runde; his parents, Will and Clara; and siblings, Bob, Bill, and Gerry Lange. The family is grateful for the many who came to spend time with Earl on the farm as his health failed. Roxie, Jeff, and Vickie would like to thank Lu for helping to provide care for Dad and Nick for all the help with the horses when Earl could no longer do the work.
