Benton, Wisconsin Edward L. Hines, 61, of Benton, Wisconsin, died Sunday, August 26, 2012, at home. Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Thursday, August 30, 2012, at Casey Funeral Home in Benton, where a military service will be held at 7 p.m. Ed was born on August 14, 1951, in Manchester, Iowa, the son of Paul Edward and Eva Lena (Montgomery) Hines. He was raised in Dubuque, Iowa. He served in the US Marine Corps from 1968-1972, serving in Vietnam from 1971-1972. He was very proud of his military service. Ed married Kathleen Hird on August 2, 1974. They moved to Benton in November 1989. Most recently he worked at Walmart in Platteville. Ed was a member of the Joseph F. McCrea VFW Post #7896 and American Legion Post #290 in Benton, and the Tri-State Vietnam Vets in Dubuque. He enjoyed poker, tropical fish, fishing, the outdoors and motorcycles. Ed especially loved children and delighted in giving burp cloths to his expectant co-workers at Walmart. He also took several children under his wing including Lisa, Jamie, Joe, Jason and Zacko. Survivors include his wife, Kathleen "Kat"; a stepson, Brooks (Nancy) Ballard and their children, Lilly and David, of Hickman, Nebraska; and two sisters, Paula Hines and Sara (Gary) Sharkey, both of Dubuque. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul, in 1955, and his mother, Eva, in 2012. An Edward L. Hines Memorial Fund has been established. A special thanks to Hospice of Dubuque, especially Traci and Amy, and Drs. Huebner, Koneru and Arbaje.
