Elizabeth “Betty” Eleanor Mary (nee Weber) Wedig, 85, passed away Oct. 20, 2023, at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison.
She was born Dec. 2, 1937, in Kendall Township to Anton Edward “Tinker” and Anna Loretta Weber.
She grew up in rural Cuba City and attended Sullivan School where she met her future husband, Arthur John Wedig, at the age of 8. She graduated from Cuba City High School in 1955 and married Art on March 2, 1957. Betty and Art had 13 children and farmed in Elk Grove Township until Art’s passing in 2003. Betty continued to live in a small house on the corner of the farm that her youngest son, Craig, operated after Art’s death.
Betty had a strong belief in honesty, independence, hard work and faith in God, and she instilled those traits in her children. She was a mother above all else. Everything she did, she did for her children.
Betty’s Catholic faith was unparalleled. She traveled to Medjugorje in Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1989 to view apparitions of the Virgin Mary. After Art’s passing, she took her vows as a Secular Franciscan and remained dedicated to the order.
