Elmer F. Kunkel, 85, formerly of Cuba City, died Friday, September 24, 2010 at Bethany Home in Dubuque, Iowa. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 27, 2010, at Immaculate Conception Church in Kieler, Wisconsin, with Rev. Bernard Rott and Rev. David Flanagan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, at the Immaculate Conception Parish Center in Kieler where the parish wake service will be held at 3:45 p.m. Friends may also call from 9-10 a.m. Monday at the Parish Center before the service. Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements. Elmer was born on March 3, 1925, in Louisburg, Wisconsin, the son of Joseph and Florence (Folmer) Kunkel. He married Marcella C. “Sally” Pfohl on May 28, 1946, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Galena, Illinois. She preceded him in death on September 3, 2000. He was a farmer all of his life, until he and Sally moved to Cuba City. Survivors include one daughter, Mary Ann (Gary) Kramer, of Dickeyville; three sons, Ronald (Mary Pat) Kunkel and Kenneth (Joanne) Kunkel, both of Hazel Green, and Kevin (Rose) Kunkel, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a son-in-law, Paul Pape, of Geneseo, Illinois; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Iola (Stanley) Thor, of Hazel Green; a brother, John Kunkel, of East Dubuque, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Melinda Kunkel, of Dubuque; and a brother-in-law, Charles Wiederholt, of Cuba City. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Pape in 2010; a grandson, Jerry Kenneth; a great-grandson, Joseph Patrick; two sisters, Rita Neuses and Mary Wiederholt; two brothers, Clair Kunkel and Duane Kunkel; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Kunkel and Marna Kunkel; and a brother-in-law, Clem Neuses. The family wishes to thank Hospice of Dubuque and all the workers at Bethany Home for being so kind to Dad.
