Potosi, Wisconsin Ernest H. "Skip" Schuckert, 67, of Potosi, Wisconsin, died Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at home after a courageous battle with cancer. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at Holy Ghost Church in Dickeyville with Rev. Bernard Rott officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Monday, April 6, 2015, at Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City where the parish wake service will be at 2:45 p.m. Friends may also call from 9-9:45 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home before the service. Skip was born on October 7, 1947, in Fairview, New Jersey, the son of Henry and Gloria (DeJacomo) Schuckert. He married Cheryl Greene Wasmund on January 17, 1981, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Skip graduated from Cuba City High School in 1966. He served in the US Army 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles as a medic/paratrooper during the Vietnam War receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Parachute Badge, Combat Medical Badge, Army Commendation Medal and Bronze Star. Skip worked at the John Deere Tractor Works in Dubuque retiring in 2000 and was a member of UAW Local #94. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. Skip loved going to Door County, where he and his wife, Cheryl, went every July for 20 some years. Survivors include his wife, Cheryl; a daughter, Tami Schuckert, of Bellevue, Iowa, three sons, Scot (Kathey) Schuckert, of Ames, Iowa, Jason Schuckert, of Dale, Wisconsin, and James Wasmund, of Dubuque, Iowa; his mother, Gloria Doles, of Brick, New Jersey; a brother, Bill (Linda) Schuckert, of Salida, Colorado; and six grandchildren, Maddison, Zakkary, Lorna, Jack, Jacob and Elizabeth. Skip was very fortunate to have two families. When Skip was twelve years old, he and Bill went to live with their aunt and uncle,,George and Gertrude Gantenbein, who raised them with their seven children, Ed, Margaret, Gary, Bill, Michelle, John and Tom. He was preceded in death by his father, Henry. An Ernest H. "Skip" Schuckert Memorial Fund has been established.
