Esther K. Egan

Cuba City, Wisconsin Esther K. Egan, 87, of Cuba City, Wisconsin, died Wednesday, April 1, 2020, at Epione Pavilion in Cuba City, Wisconsin. Private graveside services will be held at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Cuba City with Pastor Gus Barnes officiating. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Cuba City is assisting the family. Esther was born on December 8, 1932, in Cuba City, Wisconsin, the daughter of Dewey and Ina (Leggett) Heil. She married Glen A. Egan on June 3, 1950. He preceded her in death on August 8, 2015. Together, they farmed in Cuba City. Esther was also a school bus driver for 37 years. Esther was a member of Faith Lutheran Church since 1950 and a member of Eastern Star. She enjoyed quilting, ceramics, needlepoint, baking, dancing, and flower and vegetable gardening. Esther was a great party planner and a 4-H leader for 30 years. Esther and Glen enjoyed spending time at Lake Joy and CAV Park in Zephyrhills, Florida. She loved her entire family, her husband, her children, grandchildren, her godchildren and great-grandchildren deeply. Her kindness, enthusiasm and commitment to her kids was always evident. She also loved her friends like family - as long as she could tell you what she thought. She had a heart as big as blackberry pie, and a backbone as tough as nails. As her grandchildren recall: A lot could be learned from a women like Grandma, still the best cook we’ve ever met, pleasuring tummies all over Grant County. There was always room for one more at her kitchen table. The Egan home was a boarding house of sorts to uncles, aunts, cousins and some kin we really never knew. The East Bedroom was intended for guests. Some came for fun, others for rural life “structure”. They would stay a week, a summer, and even a couple for a year, including a couple from Costa Rica, Eluid (Louie) Calderon Badilla, who always remained a big part of her life. Many if not all returned to the Egan farm holding Glen and Esther dear to their hearts forever. Forever a gamer, Esther loved competition and games – Euchre, Crazy Clubs, Rummy, Poker, or more. Homemade game boards adorned the dining room. Esther could not clear her meals quick enough to get the games started. Card game tourneys in Florida, or horseshoes at Lake Joy were followed by S’Mores. Survivors include her children, Kim (Kim Wisdom) Egan, Verona, and Karla Egan-Dailey, Platteville; a sister, Shirley (Redfern) Puls, Cuba City; three grandchildren, Benjamin (Chrissy) Egan, and Jesse (fianceé Katie Schlaikowski) Egan, both of Seattle, WA, and Jacob (fianceé Mariah Hargrafen) Dailey, Hartford, WI; and three great-grandchildren, Anora, Dexter, and Ethan Egan. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Terry Egan; two infant children; and three sisters, Ruth Hilvers, Doris Kirk, and Norma Kunkel.
