Benton, Wisconsin Eugene C. "Butch" McCarthy, 92, of Benton, Wisconsin, died Sunday, January 11, 2015, at VA Hospital in Madison. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 15, 2015, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Benton with Rev. David Flanagan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Church in Benton where the parish wake service will be at 2:45 p.m. Friends may also call from 9-10 a.m. Thursday at the church before the service. Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Benton is in charge of arrangements. Butch was born on July 28, 1922, in Benton, Wisconsin, the son of Ambrose and Sadie (Murray) McCarthy. He married Mildred J. "Milly" Swift on February 19, 1945, in Benton. She preceded him in death on May 17, 2009. Butch served in the US Navy during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He became owner of McCarthy's Bar, a bar that his grandfather established around 1901, and operated it for 53 years. He was a member of the Benton VFW and American Legion. Survivors include two daughters, Danette (Kenneth) Brink and Rita McCarthy, both of Benton; three sons, Patrick (Carolyn) McCarthy, of Benton, Steven (Maureen) McCarthy, of Mt. Horeb, and Joseph (Ann O'Rourke) McCarthy, of Madison; nine grandchildren, Michelle (Lucas) Garsha, Michael (Lisa) Brink, Connor McCarthy, Sarah (Josue') Moraes, Katey (Nicholas) Neis, Kelly McCarthy, Kathleen McCarthy, Claire McCarthy and Christopher McCarthy; six great-grandchildren, Taylor, Sam and Chloe Garsha, Madalyn and Sofia Moraes, and Oliver Brink; a brother, John (Betty) Bent, of Verona; a sister, Betty (Jim) Martin, of La Jolla, California; and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Joe (Elaine) McCarthy and Frank McCarthy; his sister, Kay (Byron) Becker and his brothers and sisters-in-law, Frankie (Elmer) Hudson, Helen (Leon) Shay, Jeanette (Lavern) Welter, De Etta (Percy) Carter, Mary (Gus) Williams, Myrna (Harold) McCrea, Rita (Orin) Smith, Forrest (Leona) Swift, Clarion (Agnes) Swift, and Ray (Elaine) Swift. The family would like to thank the Epione Pavilion staff, and the Veteran's Hospital Emergency Room, SICU and Hospice staffs.
