Evelyn A. Byrne Schoenhard

June 9, 1911 — May 5, 2010

Evelyn Byrne Schoenhard, 98, of Cuba City, Wisconsin, died Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at Southwest Health Center Nursing Home in Cuba City. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 8, 2010, at St. Rose of Lima Church in Cuba City with Rev. David Flanagan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m Friday at Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City. Friends may also call from 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home before the service. Evelyn was born on June 9, 1911, in Louisburg, Wisconsin, the daughter of Joe and Dora (Digman) Lange. She married Walter Byrne on January 20, 1936. He preceded her in death in December 1954. She married Miles Schoenhard on December 19, 1970. He preceded her in death in November 1971. Evelyn’s first job was a cook at the Northwestern Hotel in Cuba City. Then she worked as a waitress at Muesel’s Café for many years. She and Walter owned and operated the Byrne Café. After Walter’s death, Evelyn was employed by Florine’s Drug Store for eight years. From there she went to the Montgomery Ward Store in Dubuque and managed four departments. Later, she managed a department in a California Montgomery Ward store. Evelyn had been an active volunteer at the Cuba City Senior Center for 35 years. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. Survivors include a son, R.J. (Joan) Byrne, of Cuba City, Wisconsin; a daughter, Betty Kramer, of Merced, California; a sister, Dolores McKillip, of Lancaster, Wisconsin; five grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Margaret Hoff, Mary Salwolke, Teenie Conzett, and Lucille Welter; a brother, Leo Lange; three half sisters; four half brothers; a grandson, Chuck Byrne; and a son-in-law, Kenneth Kramer.
