Benton, Wisconsin Florabelle M. Bass, 85, of Benton, Wisconsin, died Thursday, July 29, 2010, at Southwest Health Center Nursing Home in Cuba City. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, August 2, 2010, at Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City with Pastor Nelson Perkins officiating. Burial will be in the Hazel Green Cemetery. Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. A luncheon will follow at “Slug” and Georgia’s ranch. Everyone is welcome. Mom’s favorite (KFC and watermelon) will be served. Florabelle was born on August 9, 1924, in New London, Minnesota, the daughter of Carl and Iverine Amalia (Hoaass) Kjos. She married Marshall J. Bass on March 30, 1946, in Lancaster. He preceded her in death on October 4, 2005. Florabelle loved our dad, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters and brothers. She loved to cook, bake, sew, go to garage sales, collect angels and ride with dad on their Harley-Davidson (Hit It Dad!). She called herself a “domestic engineer” because she was a stay at home mom to all us kids and could make something from nothing and taught us to do the same. She made the best homemade bread and “sticky buns” as we kids called them. She made a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting every other day for our dad for almost 60 years and yes, we enjoyed that too. Sunday dinners and get togethers were the best because we knew everyone was welcome at her home. There was never a stranger. She made sure we knew the power of God and how He could affect our lives. When she smiled her blue eyes would twinkle as if she was up to something, and most of the time she was. She will be sadly missed by all of us. Survivors include her children, Charlotte (Bill) Boyles, of Arkansas, Marshall G. “Slug” (Georgia) Bass and Becky (John) Palfrey, both of New Diggings, Marsha “Suzy” Harrison and Robin Bass, both of Dubuque, Ronald (Teri) Bass, of Lone Rock, Joseph Bass and Mylene, of Platteville, Jerry Bass and Cathy, of Blue River, and Brad (Tina) Bass of Platteville; one sister, Phyllis Lee, of California; two brothers, Dennis Kjos, of Platteville, and Ronnie Kjos, of Lancaster; a daughter-in-law, Barb Martell, of Louisiana; 28 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Kay; a son, Charles “Butch” Martell; a grandson, Jamie Harrison; a granddaughter, Peggy Sue Harrison; an infant son, Wayne Allen; an infant daughter, Barbara Ellen; a sister, Carol Kukla and her husband Bert; a son-in-law, Earl Liefker; a brother-in-law, Bill Lee; and two sisters-in-law, Nancy, Dorothy and Shirley Kjos. The family wishes to thank Southwest Health Center Nursing Home and staff for being mom’s living angels, Bernie and Ingrid and staff of Southwest Health Center Hospice and Casey Funeral Home and staff.
