Florence K. Dean

Florence K. Dean, 83, formerly of 3891 W. Banfield Road, Potosi, Wisconsin, died Saturday, May 22, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 28, 2010, at St. Andrew’s Church in Tennyson with Rev. Richard Leffler officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Thursday at the church where the parish wake service will be at 2:45 p.m. Friends may also call from 9:30-10:15 a.m. Friday at the church before the service. Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Cuba City is in charge of arrangements. Florence was born on August 23, 1926, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond and Violet (Fries) McDonnell. She married Joseph E. Dean on August 27, 1947, at St. Patrick’s Church in Dubuque. He preceded her in death on March 27, 1995, after 47 years of marriage. Florence graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1944 and attended The Finley School of Nursing graduating as an RN in June of 1947. After graduating from nurse’s training she worked at The Finley Hospital until she married Joe. They farmed in the rural Potosi area. After Joe died Florence continued to live on the farm where she helped her son and daughter-in-law. She was a very special caregiver and loving mother to her daughter Tricia. Florence served as an officer for the St. Andrew-Thomas Altar Society. She was a great volunteer, volunteering for the Red Cross and serving funeral dinners for St. Andrew-Thomas Parish. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to all of her children. Survivors include her children, Patricia Dean, of Benton, Roger (Rita) Dean, of Orfordville, Carol (Thomas J. Mootz) Dean, of Cuba City, and Gary (Karla) Dean, of Potosi; ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and her brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Pat McDonnell.
