Fred C. Steinbach

Platteville, Wisconsin Fred C. Steinbach, 83, of Platteville, Wisconsin, formerly of Cuba City, Wisconsin, died Sunday, March 4, 2012, at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2012, at Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City with Pastor Debbie Pimm officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Friends may call from 3-7:30 p.m. Thursday and 9-10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Fred was born on January 25, 1929, in Platteville, Wisconsin, the son of Cecil and Olive (Rottiger) Steinbach. He married Marian Laird on September 15, 1948, at the United Methodist Church in Cuba City. She preceded him in death on October 3, 1994. After serving four years in the navy, Fred returned home to work with his dad at Steinbach Motor & Implement in Cuba City until 1973. He then worked for the City of Cuba City from June 1974 until August 1989. Fred served as a volunteer on the Cuba City Fire Department for over 31 years. During his time on the department, he held many offices, including 10 years as fire chief. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW of Cuba City. Fred and Marian belonged to the original Cuba City Camper's Club which led them to River of Lakes in Bagley where they enjoyed retirement. Fred enjoyed camping, fishing, tinkering and socializing with his friends at Park Place. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Fred will always be remembered for his positive outlook, sense of humor, and that special smile on his face and sparkle in his eye. Survivors include three daughters, Judy (Dave) Haverland and June Steinbach, both of Davenport, Iowa, and JoAnn (Mike) McNett, of Cuba City; two sons, John (Donna) Steinbach, of Summerfield, North Carolina, and Jeff (Debra) Steinbach, of Eagle, Wisconsin; two sisters, Joyce (Ed) Kazanjian, of Bonita Springs, Florida, and Nancy Reilly, of Anaheim, California; a sister-in-law, Donna Schmitt, of Cedar Falls, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Jim (Harriet) Laird, of Waupun, Wisconsin; ten grandchildren, Jennnifer (Aaron) Flynn, Matt McNett, Melissa (Chris) Casey, Mitchell McNett, Sommer, Sara and Steven Steinbach, Ben Schulz, and Jessica and Hannah Steinbach; four great-grandchildren, Brode and Ethan Flynn, and Connor and Chloe Casey; and nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a special friend, Jane McCabe. A Fred C. Steinbach Memorial Fund has been established.
