Fred Stanley Palfrey

February 6, 1927 — October 12, 2008

Fred was born on February 6, 1927, at home near Shullsburg, the son of James I. and Mae Mary E. (Tippett) Palfrey. He married Dolly Grace Rowe on September 25, 1950. Fred worked in the mines near Shullsburg and New Diggings until 1972. He worked as a custodian for 19 years at the Shullsburg Schools. Fred was well liked and loved. He served in the Army from February 27, 1945 until December 31, 1946. Survivors include his wife, Dolly, of Shullsburg; four daughters, Delva (Don Gille) Palfrey, of Shullsburg, Darleen (Richard) Tanner, of Evansville, WI, Daphne Stanek, of Muscoda, and Doreen (J.D.) Doyle, of Shullsburg; six sons, James (B.J.) Palfrey, of Evansville, WI, John (Becky) Palfrey, of New Diggings, WI, Joe (Jackie) Palfrey, of Muscoda, WI, Jerry (Lori) Palfrey, of Warrenton, MO, and Jay (Brenda) Palfrey and Jed (Crystal Zaring) Palfrey, both of Shullsburg; a sister, Eileen Mullen, of Cuba City; 30 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Idris and Mae Mary Eliza (Tippett) Palfrey, a brother, Gerald “Bub” Idris Palfrey; three sisters, Gwendolyn Mae Palfrey, Leah Jane Rowe, and Gladys Letitia Harwick; a son, Jeffrey Alan Palfrey; and three grandchildren, Corina Jane Fecht, Toby Joseph Fecht, and Joshua John Pedley.
