Gene was born on October 11, 1942, in Cuba City, Wisconsin, the son of Claude and Mary Frances (Parker) Trickel. He worked as an operator for Pillsbury Grain Terminal in Dubuque, and retired after many years. Gene “Trick” was proud to have been a miner. He worked at an early age with his dad, Bucky, on several digs. He had many a story and maybe some tall tales of the mines and local miners. In his younger years, he loved hunting and fishing, making many trips to Northern Wisconsin and Canada with his good friend, Simp Symons. Trick enjoyed hunting morels and giving them away. His most prized possession was his Cub Cadet tractor/lawn mower/tow truck/general form of transportation. Trick was a collector of model trains and has an impressive collection and working setup of models. His most recent train was a Packer train purchased just this winter. In the past few years, he spent time putting together train puzzles, watching the Packers, and always enjoyed a good western movie. Survivors include two sisters, Joan Trickel and Debra (Bill) Griffin, both of Benton; a brother Harold “Butch” (Shirley) Trickel, of Darlington; and a sister-in-law, Sherry Trickel, of Madison; three nieces, Nina (Lynn) Weber, and Theresa and Lana Trickel; a nephew, Jamie Trickel; two great nephews, Colyn Weber and Dallas Trickel. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dennis Trickel; and two nephews, Lucas Griffin and Jody Trickel.
