George was a caring husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was born on September 25, 1948, to Paul and Zeta (Grimm) Hoppenjan. After graduating from University of Wisconsin-Platteville , George was drafted into the United States Army, serving as a military police officer, before being honorably discharged. Soon after he met the love of his life, JoAnn Hinderman, and they were married in 1975.
George valued faith, family, hard work, and humor. As an active member of Immaculate Conception Parish and a 4th degree Knight of Columbus #765, he served God. George and JoAnn loved camping and traveling, often partaking in religious pilgrimages.
George was a loving father who supported his four children and glowed in the blessings of 13 grandchildren. Papa George was always good for a hug and a joke. He taught his sons how to play sports and cards. He enjoyed dancing with his daughters. He never missed a chance to take his family to a good car show or give his grandchildren a ride on his John Deere tractor.
George had a great sense of humor. His quick wit allowed him to make friends wherever he went. He was a dedicated fan of the Packers, Brewers and Badgers.
His entire 38 year career was spent at John Deere. He was a dedicated member of the American Legion Post #104 for 50 years, serving as commander, recruiting many members, and teaching students about patriotism.
George is survived by his wife, JoAnn Hoppenjan, Kieler; four children, Troy (Awa) Hoppenjan, Hazel Green, WI, Ross (Erica) Hoppenjan, Castle Rock, CO, Nina (Benjamin) Heinzen, Oshkosh, WI, and Lindsey (John) Hageman, Dubuque, IA; and 13 grandchildren, Vincent and Walter Hoppenjan, Bryce and Madison Hoppenjan, Evelyn, Zoe, Esther, Magdalene, Maribel and Zelie Heinzen, and Eloise, Judah and Gemma Hageman.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
