Dickeyville, Wisconsin Germaine M. Tranel, 75, of Dickeyville, Wisconsin, died Wednesday, January 26, 2011, at The Finley Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 29, 2011, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Dickeyville with Rev. Bernard Rott officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Friday at Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City where the parish wake service will be at 1:45 p.m. Friends may also call from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday morning at the funeral home before the service. Germaine was born on May 15, 1935, in Cuba City, Wisconsin, the daughter of Bernard and Agnes (Timmerman) Vaassen. She married Raphael “Ray” Tranel on May 21, 1957, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Dickeyville. Germaine was a member of the Council of Catholic Women and treasurer for the Catholic Order of Foresters. She loved going to basketball games and all sporting events of her children and grandchildren. Germaine enjoyed cooking, baking, and bringing her family together. She also enjoyed sewing and quilting, and coordinated funeral luncheons at Holy Ghost for many years. Survivors include her husband, Ray, of Dickeyville; six daughters, Deb (Terry) Kirk, of Cuba City, Carol Updike, of Las Vegas, Nevada, Jane (Paul) Wedig, of Mineral Point, Karen (Paul) Swanson, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Kay (Craig) Elskamp, of Sherrill, Iowa, and Aimee (Aaron) Richard, of Kieler; four sons, Don “Duck” (Susie) Tranel, of Dickeyville, Mike Tranel, of Vinton, Iowa, John (Judy) Tranel, of Cuba City, and Earl (Lisa) Tranel, of Lancaster; two brothers, Norbert (Rosemary) Vaassen and Dennis (Joyce) Vaassen, both of Dickeyville; 22 grandchildren, Cody, Derek, and Heidi Tranel, Jackson and Gunner Tranel, Kevin (Crystal), Kyle, and Kory (friend, Dayna) Kirk, Samantha (Jino) Gonzalez and Tiffany Updike, Jessie (Matt) Backes, Josh (fiancée, Tricia), and Jamie Tranel, Brianna and Brady Wedig, Bryan Griswald, Stephanie and Nathan Tranel, Carissa and Kaitlyn Elskamp, and Riley and Tyson Richard; and two great-grandchildren, Averie Gonzalez and Mason Kirk. She was preceded in death by her parents; her mother and father-in-law, Urban and Rose Tranel; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Arnold and Geraldine Vaassen, Lavern and Roseann Vaassen, and Gilbert and Marion Vaassen; a nephew, Marty Vaassen; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Ira Splinter; and a brother-in-law, George Wagner. The family would like to thank the Dickeyville Rescue Squad and the Emergency Room and Intensive Care Units at The Finley Hospital in Dubuque.
