Gregory J. Souza

Benton, Wisconsin Gregory J. Souza, 68, of Benton, Wisconsin, died Friday, June 5, 2015, at the home of his daughter in DePere, Wisconsin. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Benton with Rev. David Flanagan officiating. Friends may call after 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Greg was born on January 31, 1947, in Fall River, Massachusetts, the son of John and Dorothy (Amaral) Souza. He graduated from Concord High School in Hartford, Connecticut. After graduation he started a fencing business. Greg moved to Arizona where he met his wife, Christine Leahy. They were married on May 5, 1981, in Scottsdale. Later they moved to South Carolina where his first two daughters, Ashley and Lindsay, were born. Greg became a journeyman electrician working for the IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers). His family moved to Benton in 1990 where his third daughter, Katelyn, was born. Greg continued to work for the IBEW until his retirement in 2012. Greg loved to play sports like baseball and soccer. He taught his girls how to play softball and they learned the "Souza flip." Greg also enjoyed taking his kids fishing, and Christine always teased how he was the only Portuguese man who couldn't catch a fish. Above all, Greg loved his family. He was so proud of his girls and grandchildren and told anyone who would listen. Survivors include his daughters, Ashley (Kyle) Hemp, of Madison, Lindsay Souza, of De Forest, and Katelyn (Justin) Beirowski, of De Pere; two sisters, Darlene (Bob) Purcell, of Lake Oswego, Oregon, and Lori Souza, of Andover, Connecticut; two brothers, Steve (Darlene) Souza, of Connecticut, and John Souza, of Hartford, Connecticut; and two grandchildren, Kaeden Hemp and Maylin Beirowski. He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine, on May 21, 2009; his parents; and a brother, Jeff Souza. A Gregory J. Souza Memorial Fund has been established.
