Helen M. Trost

March 3, 1939 — September 14, 2024

Ridgeway, Wisconsin

Helen Marie Trost of Ridgeway, Wisconsin, formerly of New Diggings, Wisconsin, went home to Jesus on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the age of 85. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 19, 2024, at Casey-McNett Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Cuba City, Wisconsin, with Rev. Bill Vasey officiating. Visitation will be held 11:00 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home prior to the service. Burial will take place at the Shawnee Town Cemetery in New Diggings, Wisconsin.

Helen was born to Lazetta (Rose) Smith and Herman Schmidt on March 3, 1939, in her beloved Galena, Illinois. She attended school there, saying she climbed those Galena stairs multiple times a day. She walked from their home across from the former hospital to the public swimming pool and roller-skating rink, which she enjoyed and became an excellent skater.

Helen married Ralph Harold Bennett and raised five children: Ralph Jr., Crystal, Tammy, Debra and Tim. She was a proud grandmother of Chastity, Joshua, Jeffrey, Brittany, Zachary, Lacey, Matthew, Daniel, Stephanie, Kevin, Jerod, Brianna, and Blazey; and great-grandmother of twenty-one.

A creative person, Helen enjoyed making and teaching ceramics for many years. She also enjoyed cake baking and decorating and made many birthday and wedding cakes for family and friends. She was famous for her pumpkin rolls. Her biggest love in life was her family and all babies and children. It didn’t matter whose children, she loved them all. She was generous and would help anyone in need.

Helen attended the West Madison Bible Church in Verona, Wisconsin, where she was a member and made many friends. She enjoyed baking treats for after service refreshments, until her health no longer allowed it. Her religion was very important to her and she had strong faith in the Lord.

Helen is survived by four children, Ralph Bennett Jr., Crystal (Tim) Robbins, Tammy (Greg) Stagman and Debra Long; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a sister, Karen (Arthur) Arandt; a stepson, Scott (Tina) Trost; and many nieces and nephews.

Helen was preceded in death by her son, Tim Bennett; a granddaughter, Heather Bennett; husband, Ralph Harold Bennett; her mother, Rose Krohmer; her father, Herman Schmidt; stepfather, Vincent Krohmer; two sisters, Doris (Beauford) Krohmer and Nancy (Bill) Miller; a brother, Gary (Susan) Krohmer; and a sister-in-law, Roxanne Krohmer.

In lieu of flowers, a Helen M. Trost Memorial Fund has been established. Memorials may be sent to the funeral home at 123 N. Jackson St., Cuba City, WI 53807.

The family would like to thank Dr. Altman and her staff at Upland Hills, the staff of Fresenius Kidney Care, and the staff of Agrace Hospice for their compassionate care of Helen.
