Born on July 14, 1921, James throughout life revered his rural Wisconsin upbringing and reminisced fondly of years spent farming with his late brother, Johnny. He worked at John Deere in Dubuque, IA. for over 32 years. During World War II, he served as an infantry sergeant in the European theatre. He enjoyed listening to baseball, big swing bands and old-style country music. James leaves a sister, Margaret Brummond of Janesville and sister-in-law, Helen Probst of New Berlin. He is survived by daughter Stephanie Daresh and her husband John of El Paso, Texas and their daughter Bridget; son Dan Probst and his wife Gael of Falmouth, Massachusetts; and son Andrew Probst and his wife Sharon of Oregon, Wisconsin and their sons, Jacob and Jesse. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion (O’Donnell) Probst. Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to Central Association of Miraculous Medal, 475 E. Chelton Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19144-5785.
