Potosi, Wisconsin Jerry A. Ames, 76, of Potosi, Wisconsin, died Thursday, March 31, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 4, 2016, at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson with Rev. Richard Leffler officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Sunday and from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Monday at St. Andrew Church in Tennyson. Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Cuba City is in charge of arrangements. Jerry was born on July 23, 1939, in Hazel Park, Michigan, the son of Philip J. and Mabel E. (Udelhofen) Ames. He graduated from St. Andrew High School in Tennyson in 1956. Jerry married Nancy E. Kieler on April 20, 1960, at Holy Ghost Church in Dickeyville. After high school, Jerry worked at Winkler Implement, followed by the Dubuque Packing Company (1958-1982). He also sold Vigortone Feed with “Uncle Bud” and managed the Grant River Campground in Potosi for many years, all while farming in the Potosi and Burton areas. Jerry was currently working at Kieler's Store in Dickeyville as well as serving as a Supervisor for Potosi Township. He was a very busy man. Jerry loved playing cards, fishing and boating on the Mississippi, houseboat trips, listening and singing to Johnny Cash and ABBA, working on the farms with his John Deere tractors and cutting acres and acres of grass on his Grasshopper, trips to Alaska, Cozumel, St. Germain, and eating hot dogs in Riviera Maya. But most of all, he loved spending time with his family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Survivors include his wife, Nancy; two daughters, Christine (Porter) Wagner, of Dickeyville, and Kari Sue (Mark) Frederick, of Cuba City; three sons, Philip (Debbie) Ames, of Hollandale, WI, Scott (Tammy) Ames, of Streamwood, IL, and Alan (Julie) Ames, of Potosi; two sisters, Gloria Curtis, of Lancaster, and Janet (friend, Terry) Dempsey, of Loveland, CO; two brothers, Larry (Judy) Ames, of Platteville, and Gene (Barb) Ames, of Potosi; twelve grandchildren, Angela (Erik) Oleson, Makila (Brandon) Willger, Stephanie (Mike) Nihles, Nathan, Abigail and Kieler Ames, Paul, Anna, John and Kyle Frederick, and Austin and Amber Ames; six great-grandchildren, Nolan, Wagner and Baby Girl Willger, Eli and Kiera Oleson, and Baby Boy Nihles; and many nieces and nephews, as well as his furry best friends Woofer and Diddy. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers-in-law, Joe Winkler, Dick Dempsey, and Floyd Curtis; and a nephew, Joey Winkler. A Jerry A. Ames Memorial Fund has been established.
