John Joseph Legler

Hazel Green, Wisconsin John Joseph “Joe” Legler, 84, of Hazel Green, Wisconsin, died Sunday, November 13, 2011, at home. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 18, 2011, at St. Patrick’s Church in Benton with Rev. David Flanagan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Thursday at Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Benton where the parish wake service will be at 2:45 p.m. Friends may also call from 8:30-9:45 a.m. Friday at the funeral home before the service. Joe was born on August 28, 1927, in New Diggings, Wisconsin, the son of Martin and Josephine (Weis) Legler. He married Mary Chadwick on June 11, 1955. Joe put his heart and soul into his farm near Hazel Green. He was also a seed salesman and a special deputy sheriff for Lafayette County. Joe was the Benton Township Treasurer for 51 years. He was also a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and St. Patrick’s Parish Council and St. Patrick’s Cemetery Committee. Survivors include his wife, Mary, of Hazel Green; a daughter, Rosemary (Gary) Keleher, of Dubuque, IA; a son, Allan J. (Diane Miesbauer) Legler, of Hartland, WI; a sister, Martina (Bud) Runde, of Cuba City, WI; a brother-in-law, Loren Chadwick, of Machesney Park, IL; a sister-in-law, Mavis (Orland) Merfeld, of East Dubuque, IL; six grandchildren, Christopher Legler, Danita (Matt) Chapin, Allan M. Legler, and Paula, Peter and Patrick Keleher; four great-grandchildren, Craig and Evan Legler, and Zyler and Zeydn Chapin; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Peg Chadwick.
