John T. Alexander

August 12, 1930 — June 13, 2009

Jack was born on August 12, 1930, in Shullsburg, Wisconsin, the son of John T. and Johanna (Morrissey) Alexander Sr. He married Pauline Kearns on November 5, 1947, in Dubuque, Iowa. Jack worked for Caradco Company of Dubuque and later at John Deere Dubuque Tractor Works from 1961-1971. Jack and Pauline managed Cole Acres Country Club in Cuba City in 1971 and 1972. In 1972 Jack began a career in insurance with New York Life Insurance Company for 35 + years and was one of their top agents until his retirement in 2005. Jack also worked for Casey Funeral Home. Jack graduated from Shullsburg High School in 1947 and was involved in athletics as a young person, excelling in all aspects of athletics in high school. He also umpired Tri County Baseball League games in the area. Jack was a member and served as chief of the Benton Fire Department and helped build the new fire station. He was a member of the Benton Village Board and was on the Lafayette County Board of Supervisors from 1992-2008, serving as chairman of the Lafayette County Law Enforcement Committee. He received an award from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services for his long term service. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Pauline; his children, Linda Alexander, of Verona, WI, Mark (Kay) Alexander, of Madison, WI, Alan (Sally) Alexander, of Benton, David Alexander, of Hillsboro, WI, JoAnn (Jim) Malmgren, of Plymouth, MN, and Patti (Gary) McCauley, of Lodi, WI; a daughter-in-law, Carol Alexander, of Benton; a sister, Mary Jo Bancroft, of Port Richey, FL; sixteen grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael Alexander in 1990; a daughter, Mary Jo; and a grandson, Kyle David Alexander.
