Joe was born on September 3, 1947, in Hazel Green, Wisconsin, the son of James and Dorothy (Radtke) Monahan. He married Anna Voss on June 3, 1971. He worked as a charge nurse at Stonehill Care Center in Dubuque and at the Galena Nursing Home. He retired from John Deere in 2001. Joe served as a marine and retired from the Army Reserves in 1997. He was a former member of the Hazel Green Rescue Squad. Joe also served on the Hazel Green Village Board and Library Board from 1990-2001. Survivors include his wife, Anna; two daughters, Sarah (fiancé, Kevin Bourland) Molzof, of Dubuque, and Lisa (fiancé, Jerry Anthony) Monahan, of Cuba City; a son, Dennis (Annette) Monahan, of Saukville, Wisconsin; two sisters, Pat (John) Curran, of Lena, Illinois, and Kathy (Jim) Weber, of Hazel Green, Wisconsin; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Dorothy Voss and Hank Schroeder, of East Dubuque; and thirteen grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Dorothy Monahan; a sister, Mary Jane; a niece, Kelly; and a granddaughter, Megan Molzof. In lieu of flowers a Joseph A. Monahan Memorial Fund has been established.
