Joseph B. "Joe" Hanfeld, 72, of Dickeyville, Wisconsin, formerly of Sinsinawa and Cuba City, Wisconsin, was called home to his Lord after a brief illness on Saturday, May 7, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque surrounded by his family. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Sinsinawa with Rev. Kenneth Frisch officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends and relatives can greet the family from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at St Joseph’s Church. Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Cuba City is in charge of arrangements. Joe was born on November 19, 1943, in Sinsinawa, Wisconsin, the loving son of Alfred and Clara (Wubben) Hanfeld. Joe and his five brothers and sisters shared in the labors and joys that came with growing up together on the family farm. He was a hard working person and always took pride in his professional endeavors, whether it was from atop a bulldozer or hauling freight over the open road. Joe retired as a member of the local Operating Engineers. He greatly enjoyed hunting and the outdoors, taking many trips west with friends. He was skilled with tools and liked working with his hands. One of Joe's great passions was cheering on his Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs. He was a gentle “giant” with great strength. The last few years he enjoyed watching and feeding his birds at his Dickeyville apartment. He is lovingly remembered by his many nieces and nephews as an engaging and fun-loving uncle. Joe, we will remember your gentle spirit and carry your warm smile with us until the day of our everlasting reunion. Those left to honor his memory include his sisters, Mary Selan, of Oak Creek, WI, Carol Signer, of Gratiot, WI, and Lois (Bernie) Farrey, of Milan, IL; a brother Norman (Mary Jean) of Kieler, WI; a sister-in law, Barb Hanfeld, of rural Hazel Green, WI; his nieces and nephews, Jeff Hanfeld, Angie Paniagua, Dan and David Selan, Greg Signer, Carla Treuthardt, Brenda Glendenning, Sheila Bredeson, Nancy Conlon, Kurt Farrey, Andrea Archer, and Mike and Tony Hanfeld; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, William “Bill” (2012); and a brother-in law, August Selan (2014). A Joseph B. "Joe" Hanfeld Memorial Fund has been established. Thanks to the entire Mercy Hospital staff for your great care.
