Dickeyville, Wisconsin Julie “Peach” Hasken, 41, of Dickeyville, Wisconsin, passed away while surrounded by family and friends on Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, at The Finley Hospital, in Dubuque, Iowa. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, February. 25, 2011, at St. Rose of Lima Church in Cuba City with Rev. Bernard Rott officiating. Burial will be in the Holy Ghost Cemetery in Dickeyville. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Thursday at Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City where a memory service will be held at 1:15 p.m. Family and friends are welcome to share memories of “Peach” at this service. Friends may also call from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home before the service. Julie was born on January 20, 1970, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Gilbert and Marian Kunkel-Vaassen. Julie graduated from Wahlert High School in 1988. She enjoyed watching her children, nieces, and nephews play sports. She was an avid Cuba City fan. Julie loved playing volleyball and softball as well as coaching those sports. She loved music and made several CD’s for friends of songs that were popular when she grew up. Camping with her family and friends was also a special love. Julie has touched the lives of so many with her strength, courage, and faith throughout her journey with cancer. Until the end, she made us all laugh. Survivors include her children, Megan and Justin, of Dickeyville; their father, Bob Hasken, of Dickeyville; four sisters, Cindy (Jerry) Wiederhold, of Dickeyville, Jan Vaassen, of Potosi, Mary (Brian) Siegenthaler, of New Glarus, and Nikki (Cole) Kaiser, of Hazel Green; three brothers, Steve (Carol) Vaassen of Dubuque, Jamie (Amanda) Vaassen, of Kieler, and Tommy Bastis, of Georgia; her stepmother, Pat (Bruce) Vaassen-Mundschenk, of Dubuque; 22 nieces and nephews; and 6 great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert and Marian; and a brother, Marty Vaassen. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the Dickeyville Rescue Squad, The Finley Hospital ER and Jane, Courtney, and Rob of The Finley Hospital ICU. In lieu of flowers, a Julie “Peach” Hasken Memorial Fund has been established. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.caseyfuneralhome.net.
