Cuba City, Wisconsin Lawana I. Genthe, 89, of Cuba City, Wisconsin, died Tuesday, November 26, 2013, at Epione Pavilion in Cuba City. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 30, 2013, at Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City with Pastor Melissa Waterman officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Friday and from 9-10:15 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Lawana was born on September 28, 1924, in Apple River, Illinois, the daughter of John T. and Vesta (Roberts) Hume. She married Robert F. "Bob" Genthe on August 9, 1947, at the Apple River Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on May 18, 2000. Lawana graduated from Apple River and Warren High School at Warren, Illinois, and Platteville Pioneer Teachers College (now known as the University of Wisconsin-Platteville). She taught school in Jefferson, Wisconsin, and Platteville, Wisconsin. Lawana was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Cuba City where she had been a past Sunday school teacher. She was also a charter member of the VFW Auxiliary of Platteville and a past Cub Scout den mother. Lawana loved to play cards, read and visit with friends and relatives. She also loved having her family near and anything to do with children. Survivors include a brother, William "Bill" (JoAnn) Hume, of Leominister, Massachusetts; three children, Michael R. Genthe, of Middleton, Wisconsin, Jane (Steven) Kirk, of Omaha, Nebraska, and Douglas R. (Laura) Genthe, of Black Earth, Wisconsin; five grandchildren, Kristen (Brian) Lancaster, Troy (Chelsey) Kirk, Lindsey (Justin) Carraher, and Zachary and Nicholas Genthe; and eight great-grandchildren, Ethan, Aiden, Chloe, Amani, Finley, Beckham, Quade and Knox. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Shelby Hume, of Apple River, Illinois. A Lawana I. Genthe Memorial Fund has been established.
