Lawrence D. Lutes

Shullsburg, Wisconsin Lawrence D. "Larry" Lutes, 84, of Shullsburg, Wisconsin, died Wednesday, October 22, 2014, at home. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 25, 2014, at the Primitive Methodist Church in New Diggings, Wisconsin, with Rev. Lee Smith and Rev. Bill Vasey officiating. Burial will be in Shawnee Cemetery with military rites accorded. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Benton and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church before the service. Larry was born on July 6, 1930, in New Diggings, Wisconsin, the son of Earl D. and Evangeline "Vangie" (Anderson) Lutes. He attended New Diggings grade and high school graduating in 1948. Larry married Delores M. Chapman on February 14, 1954, at St. Luke's Methodist Church in Dubuque. Larry served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked at Hamilton Sunstrand in Denver, Colorado as a machinist. Throughout his life tinkering and working on cars was a passion. Larry liked to travel going on trips with his wife, Delores, especially to see their granddaughter and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed reading and talking politics. Survivors include his wife, Delores; a daughter, Karin Lutes, of Shullsburg; a daughter-in-law, Virginia Lutes Blake, of Houston, Texas; a granddaughter, Jessica (Aaron) Keevan; two great-grandchildren, Marlee and Conner; three brothers, Wally (Libby) Lutes, of Shullsburg, Richard (Joanne) Lutes, of Benton, and Charles (Pam) Lutes, of Cannon Falls, Minnesota; a special nephew and niece, Tim (Kim) Lutes, and Tansy (Mike) Rooney; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, John and Mike; a sister, Nora Lutes; a brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Virginia Lutes; and his father and mother-in-law, Lawrence and Ruth Chapman. A Lawrence D. "Larry" Lutes Memorial Fund has been established.
