Leslie "Les" J. Johns

July 24, 1950 — October 25, 2024

Potosi, Wisconsin

Leslie James Johns, 74, of rural Potosi, Wisconsin, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, October 25, 2024. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at Galena Bible Church, Galena, Illinois, with Pastor Gary Ackland officiating. Burial will take place in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Cuba City, Wisconsin. Visitation will be held from 2-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 29 at Casey-McNett Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Cuba City, Wisconsin, and from 9-9:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church prior to the service.

Les was born on July 24, 1950 to Jim and Mary (Banfield) Johns. He enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country as a combat engineer during the Vietnam War from 1969-1971. He was united in marriage to Georgia Bloechl on June 24, 1972.

Les was a lineman for Wisconsin Power & Light and Alliant Energy for 30 years before retiring at the age of 58. He continued farming in Southwest Wisconsin for the remainder of his life.

Les considered himself a “gentleman farmer” with an incredible love for Jesus. He came to saving faith, accepting Christ as his Lord and Savior in 2003. He became a student of the Holy Bible and Christian history. His greatest desire was to see others come to saving faith. He lived for family, his faith in Jesus, farming and hunting, and rarely traveled without a fishing boat behind him. He especially loved fishing on the Mississippi River, and many lakes in Wisconsin and Minnesota during all four seasons.

Les lived by the motto “Get er done”. If you were lucky enough to spend a Saturday with Les, you’d be corralled into butchering chickens, cutting wood, making fence, cutting grass, shooting guns, riding horses or learning something from his desire to teach the teachable.

Les is survived by his wife of 52 years, Georgia (Bloechl) Johns; two daughters, Maggie (Todd) Kowalski, La Crescent, MN, and Emily (Henry III) Yach, Wausau; a son, Jeff (Holly) Johns, Cuba City; an honorary daughter and son, Britt (Ryan) O’Connell, Platteville; four sisters, Mary Alice (Terry Udelhofen) Johns, Madison, Kay (Luke) Kuepers, Dickeyville, Beth (Jerry) Busch, Cuba City, and Julie (Mark) Rae, Verona; a brother, Bob (Cathy) Johns, Potosi; and 14 grandchildren, Will, Cody and Jenna Kowalski, Henry IV, Abby, Grace and Ellie Yach, Ryleigh Kirk, Levi, Addaley and Lucy Johns, and Griffin, Georgia and Graham O’ Connell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim Johns and Mary “Beeb” Johns McWilliams; a daughter, Jenny, in 1981; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Erwin and Bernice Bloechl; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Horn and Christine Bloechl; a brother-in-law, Steve “Gomer” Smith; and a niece, Rachel Schuster.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Leslie’s name may be sent to the funeral home at 123 N. Jackson St., Cuba City, WI 53807.

The family would like to thank the Dubuque medical doctors and nurses who took exemplary care of Les these last years, and Hospice of Dubuque. Also, a special thank you to a special friend, JoAnne, who walked him through six years of alternative health.
