Lorence (Larry) D. Symons, 60, of Benton, Wisconsin, died Tuesday, October 14, 2014, at home. Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 18, 2014, at Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Benton with Rev. Bill Vasey officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home before the service. Immediately following the service there will be a celebration of life at Lawrence's Pub & Eatery, 46 East Main St., in Benton. Larry was born on July 25, 1954, in Hazel Green, Wisconsin, the son of Delmar and Grace (Hatfield) Symons. He married Julie Hoffmann on September 30, 1988, in Benton. Our Larry was the “Jack of all Trades.” Throughout his life, his intelligence and general talents allowed him to wear the hat of a seamstress, electrician, plumber, fireman, hunter, architect, carpenter, lumber salesman, mechanic, construction-know-it-all, and many more. Although he was extremely talented, he made it a priority to share these wonderful gifts with everyone and used them to create better lives for everyone around him. From fixing garage doors and roofing houses to working on stock cars and sewing buttons on coats, he was always helping others. His caring personality was second to none, and oftentimes he would go above and beyond to put others before himself. His life changed drastically in 2003, when he was diagnosed with tonsicular cancer. After his treatments, many health complications arose, yet he still possessed an amazing attitude and sacrificed many things in order to be here for others. He continued working with his second family at his beloved workplace of Spahn & Rose Lumber Co. in Dubuque, IA. However, further complications due to treatments of the first round of cancer regrettably forced him to leave in 2013. In Spring of 2014, Larry’s health took a turn for the worst when he was rediagnosed with throat cancer. Yet again, he sacrificed more than a person should ever be asked to and was determined to put up the greatest fight to stay on earth with his loved ones. Fortunately, God knew that he would never stop sacrificing his comfort for others and recognized that he deserved to be free of pain. Now, with his parents and beloved pet Mystic who preceded him in death, he is laughing, eating, drinking, and talking, finally free of pain. Survivors include his wife, Julie, of Benton; a daughter, Jessica Lauren Symons, of Benton; a son, Aaron Delmar (Nicole) Symons, of Neillsville, Wisconsin; three grandchildren, Joshua, Tristen and Tiffany Symons; two sisters, Barbara Jensen and family, and Joyce (Danny) Slater and family, both of Cuba City; two brothers, William (Jan) Symons and family, of Roanoke, Indiana, and Steven Symons, of Benton; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mary JoAnn and Jude Ubersox, of Shullsburg; and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Steve (Mary Jo) Hoffmann and family, of Leadmine, Brian Hoffmann, of Cuba City, and Penny (Al) VanAtta and family, of Benton. He was preceded in death by his parents. A Lorence (Larry) D. Symons Memorial Fund has been established. The family of Lorence (Larry) D. Symons would like to thank Dr. Janes, Dr. Rolling, Dr. Schreiber, Dr. King, Dr. King, Dr. Schultheis, Dr. Arce, Dr. Pegedar, Dr. Alt, Dr. Caceres, other doctors, all of the nurses, and Hospice of Dubuque that helped keep him as comfortable as possible for the past 11+ years. Also a huge thank you goes out to Spahn & Rose Lumber Co., contractors, New Diggings General Store, Lawrence’s Bar and Grill, the Community of Benton, and everyone in between for always supporting Larry. To all, your kindness and support will never be forgotten, just as Larry’s wonderful spirit will never truly die.
