Luke T. “Tom” Murphy, 84, of Platteville, Wisconsin, formerly of Cuba City, Wisconsin, died Sunday, September 6, 2009, at Southwest Health Center Nursing Home in Cuba City. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 10, 2009, at St. Rose of Lima Church in Cuba City with Rev. David Flanagan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors accorded by local VFW Post #8318. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday at Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City where the parish wake service will be at 3:00 p.m. Friends may also call after 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Tom was born on April 16, 1925, in Woodman, Wisconsin, the son of Luke M. and Catherine (Mulrooney) Murphy. He married Marcella “Marcie” Eisele on January 26, 1948. Tom graduated from Fennimore High School in 1942. He spent two years in the US Army during WWII. Tom farmed for six years and then worked for John Deere Dubuque Tractor Works until his retirement on October 31, 1983. After retirement he worked for Casey Funeral Home. Tom was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #765 in Cuba City, a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Father Mazzuchelli Assembly; and a member of the Cuba City VFW Post #8318. He served on the Cole Acres Board of Directors, the Cuba City Apartments Board of Directors; and served two terms on the St. Rose of Lima Parish Council. Survivors include his wife, Marcella “Marcie”, of Platteville; three daughters, Patricia (Jay) Cherry, of Maquoketa, IA; Joan (Dan) Moffatt, of McFarland, WI, and Teresa M. Murphy, of Cuba City; four sons, Michael T. (Linda) Murphy, of Cuba City, David O. Murphy, of Rockton, IL, Timothy J. (Kathy) Murphy, of Platteville, and John J. Murphy, of Fennimore; a son-in-law, Terry Hollander, of Bagley; eighteen grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luke and Catherine Murphy; a daughter, Kathy Hollander; a son-in-law, Jim Leibold; a grandson-in-law, Brett Runde; a great-granddaughter, Kailee Kunkel; and a sister, Bernadine Newberry. A Luke T. “Tom” Murphy Memorial Fund has been established.
