Marie was born on March 18, 1930, in Hazel Green, WI, daughter of George and Hazel (Kirk) Hull. She graduated from Hazel Green High School and then attended business college in Dubuque. She married Richard P McCarthy on November 16, 1950 in Hazel Green; he preceded her in death on March 15, l989. She was employed at Hazel Green Hospital as a nursing assistant until 1968 when she became a full-time housewife. She was a very active member of the United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crocheting, baking, being outdoors working in her yard, and spending time with friends and family. She was known to many with her visits to friends, family, and neighbors with her bake goods, cards, support, and kind words. She was a loving, caring daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She always put everyone before herself. Surviving are four children: John (Beverly) McCarthy, of Peosta, IA, James (Linda) McCarthy, of Davenport, IA, Coni (Bob Sisler, special friend) Stephenson, of Dubuque, IA, and Carol McCarthy, of Theinsville, WI; seven grandchildren, Nicole (Brian) Beau, of Benton, WI, Justin (Michelle Udelhofen, special friend) McCarthy, of Dubuque, IA, Abby (Jared Tharp, special friend) Stephenson, of Dubuque, IA, Adam McCarthy, of Webster City, IA, Jesse Stephenson, of New Orleans, LA, Jill (Mike) Tandy, of Davenport, IA, and Robbie McCarthy, of Davenport, IA; and three great-grandchildren, Samuel Stephenson, Benjamin and Mya Beau, and a baby, Julietta McCarthy, due in June. She is also survived by one sister, Norma (Jack) Dobbert, of Oconomowoc, WI, a brother, Howard (Joyce) Hull, of Platteville, WI, and four sisters-in-law, Jean Hull, of Cuba City, WI, Florence Hull, of Dubuque, IA, Peggy (Arnie) Lemke, of Oconomowoc, WI, and Evelyn Cooper, of Pewaukee, WI, plus many nieces and nephews and great friends. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Merlin and Robert Hull; and a sister-in-law, Joan Hull. In lieu of flowers, a Marie McCarthy Memorial Fund has been established. The family would like to extend a sincere thank-you to Hospice of Dubuque and Pastor Ed Jones. Marie especially enjoyed the visits over the past month to celebrate her life with many friends and family.
