Mary C. Gile

March 27, 1923 — February 12, 2009

Sally was born on March 27, 1923, in Shullsburg, Wisconsin, the daughter of Vincent and Mary Nina (Timmins) Byrne. She married Cletus R. Gile on January 5, 1943. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary this past January. Sally worked alongside her husband, Cletus making cheese, first at Dunbarton, and in 1946 they purchased and moved to the Carr Cheese Factory where cheese is still made today. Her enjoyment came from her family. She was a member of St. Rose Parish and the Council of Catholic Women. Survivors include her husband, Cletus, of Cuba City; five daughters, Sharon (Ron) Magee, of Dickeyville, Mary (Roger) Slaats, of Cuba City, Susan (Bill) Porter, of Bettendorf, IA, Sally Jo (Glenn) Kinch, of Mineral Point, WI, and Phyllis (Clem) Wiegman, of Livingston, WI; four sons, Richard (Diane) Gile, of Hazel Green, Thomas (Gloriann) Gile and Tim (Diane) Gile, both of Cuba City, and Ken (Nora) Gile, of Palatine, IL; a son-in-law, Jim Glynn, of Fort Atkinson; two brothers, Richard (Phyllis) Byrne, of Leadmine, and Joseph (Geraldine) Byrne, of Shullsburg; a sister-in-law, Florence Byrne, of Shullsburg; a brother-in-law, Sal DeFrancesca, of Chicago; thirty-one grandchildren; forty-one great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Maureen, on October 25, 2004; her parents, Vincent & Nina Byrne; a brother, Robert Byrne; a sister, Kay Defrancesca; and two sisters and a brother in infancy. A Mary C. “Sally” Gile Memorial Fund has been established. Sally’s family would like to thank the Southwest Health Center, and Hospice of Dubuque for their care, kindness, and compassion.
