Shullsburg, Wisconsin Mary Jane Hoppenjan, 83, of Shullsburg, Wisconsin, died Monday, January 7, 2019, at Epione Pavilion in Cuba City. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 11, 2019, at St. Matthew's Church in Shullsburg with Rev. Sudhakar Devarapu officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 9-10:45 a.m. Friday at the church before the service. Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Cuba City is handling arrangements. Mary Jane was born on October 15, 1936, in Apple River, Illinois, the daughter of Leo and Dora (Schlicting) Talbert. Mary Jane graduated from high school in Warren, Illinois. She attended Clarke College for one year and then went to work in Freeport, Illinois. On September 3, 1960, she married Donald Hoppenjan at St. Joseph's Church in Apple River. They were blessed with five children. After being a farmer's wife she went to work at Micro Switch in Warren, Illinois. After retiring she enjoyed her time opening up Jake's Bar in Scales Mound and serving coffee. She enjoyed taking a trip west with her friends to do a little gambling. Mary Jane was blessed with some good friends. She also enjoyed visits and picture taking with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and of course her very special nieces--Jodi Barth-Walsh and Judi Barth-Carey. Survivors include her daughter, Jane Ann (Tom) Myers, Cuba City, WI; three sons, Joseph Leo, Janesville, WI, David Donald, Florida, and Daniel John, Apple River, IL; a sister, Elizabeth Barth, Darlington, WI; two sisters-in-law, Rita Hoppenjan, Janesville, WI and Charlene Hoppenjan, Platteville, WI; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald on June 16, 1996; a son, Timothy James on February 7, 2007; a granddaughter, Kate Lynn Hoppenjan on August 12, 1991; her parents, Leo and Dora Talbert; and her in-laws Richard Barth, Irene Hoppenjan, Marion (Jim) Endicott, Ethel (Don) Schultz, Monica (Ray) Farrey, Mary Carita (Gordon) Hartin, Joan (Art) Abelt, Paul (Meg) Hoppenjan, Joe Hoppenjan, Jack Hoppenjan and Jim Hoppenjan. The family would like to thank all the very special staff, everyone from the housekeeping and dietary staff to all of the nursing staff, at Epione Pavilion in Cuba City. You all took the time to visit with Mom. She loved you all as much as we do.
