Mary Jeanne Negus

June 23, 1940 — June 29, 2009

Jeanne was born on June 23, 1940, in Shullsburg, Wisconsin, the daughter of Frank and Helen (McComish) Splinter. She married William “Bill” Negus at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa, on August 28, 1965. He preceded her in death in December of 2006, right before Christmas. She never got over the loss of him. Bill and Jeanne lived in Union Grove, Wisconsin, for 25 years. Bill worked on the deep tunnel project in Milwaukee. After Bill’s retirement, they moved back to their childhood home area and resided in Cuba City since 1992. During her lifetime, Jeanne was mainly a homemaker and also worked for a while in a factory in Union Grove, Wisconsin. Jeanne loved country and western music, enjoyed working crossword puzzles, and loved playing games with her family. She loved her husband and children very much, and her life revolved around them. Survivors include her three children, two sons from a previous marriage, Donald (Anne) Peebles, of West Bend, Wisconsin, and David Peebles, of Eden, Wisconsin; a daughter from her marriage with Bill, Tammy (Tony) Lauf, of Racine, Wisconsin; a stepson, Tom (Brenda) Negus, of Conway, Arkansas; a sister, Anna Mae (Donald) Wiederholt, of Hazel Green; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Splinter, of Hazel Green; and four grandchildren, Jonathan and Samantha Peebles, and Amanda and Morgan Lauf. Also preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers, Francis “Pete” Splinter and Arthur Splinter. In lieu of flowers, a Mary J. “Jeanne” Negus Memorial Fund has been established. A special thank you to Hospice of Dubuque, especially Megan, Tracy, and Melissa, and the Southwest Health Center Nursing Home staff for their attentive and compassionate care of Jeanne.
