Mary was born on May 13th, 1933, one of nine siblings, near Spokane, Washington, daughter of Louie and Bessie (Knepp) Franz. On June 6th, 1959, she married Marvin Kennicker at Holy Trinity Church in Dubuque, Iowa. In 1970 Mary and Marvin purchased the family farm in Georgetown which is their present home. Mary worked twenty-one years, full-time at the Dubuque Packing Co, retiring in 1978. Her second interest was her enjoyment of working on the family farm with her friends and family. Mother Mary was an avid cook and loved feeding her army of helpers. In addition, she enjoyed teaching others how to cook and can, as well as took interest in the animals on the farm. She always looked forward to visiting with company coming and going from their farm house, including the many children who would enjoy her home cooking. Mary always looked forward to the holiday time and celebrations, including the 4th of July fireworks, to the kids’ wild game feed, as well as the joys of Christmas, where she would shower her family and friends with gifts. Mary was a caretaker, watching over everyone, especially through late nights of field work. She always put others first and herself second. Mary was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church in Cuba City. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. She will be deeply missed by her many friends. She touched everyone who she met and treated friends as family. Mary is survived by her husband, Marvin; daughter, Marilyn (Patrick Mulligan); sons, James, John, Joey (Amy Baus), Jeffery (Sue Steinhoff); granddaughters, Jamie (Chet Lee), Abbey Baus (Jakob Stein), Shannon Mulligan, and Maddey Kennicker; great-grandsons Brett and Alex Lee; sister Bertha Franz; and brother-in-law Bob ‘Nubbins’ Bechen. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the many caregivers, friends, and family that have helped, your care and compassion will never be forgotten. The family prefers contributions be made to the Mary Kennicker Memorial Fund.
