Maynard O. Monson

July 22, 1930 — April 15, 2016

Hazel Green, Wisconsin Maynard O. Monson, 85, of Hazel Green, Wisconsin, died Friday, April 15, 2016, at the home of his daughter, Shelley Wilson, in Platteville. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City with Rev. Dianne Grace, Hospice of Dubuque, officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Platteville. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Monday and from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Tuesday before the service at the funeral home. Maynard was born on July 22, 1930, in Osseo, Wisconsin, the son of Olius H. and Mary Helena (Torpen) Monson. He married Rosemary A. "Rosie" Olson on August 8, 1951, in Osseo. She preceded him in death on November 7, 2007. Before retirement he was employed at Janlin Plastics and John Deere Tractor Works both in Dubuque. He also worked at the Wisconsin Information Center as a rest area manager. Maynard was proud to have served in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955 and had the privilege of going on an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. He was an avid Braves, Packers and Badger fan and loved bowling, old time dancing and tinkering with small engines. Maynard enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Survivors include his daughter, Shelley Wilson, of Platteville; a son, Mardy (Cindy) Monson, of Crown Point, Indiana; two grandchildren, Eric Wilson and Chad (Dana) Wilson; four step-grandchildren, Melissa Potts, Wes (Aliki) Theodorou, Nicole Potts and Kathryn (Derek) Hayes; a great-grandson, Wade Wilson; two sisters, Doris Tomter, of Dubuque, and Marian Holman, of Austin, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Hans, Orville, Morris, Edvin, Gilman and Clifford Monson; two sisters, Selma Larson and Julia Rue; four brothers-in-law; and four sisters-in-law. A Maynard O. Monson Memorial Fund has been established. The family would like to thank Traci Kieler and all the wonderful people at Hospice of Dubuque for your care and support. A special thank you to Denise Curran for all your help caring for our dad during his illness.
