Benton, Wisconsin Melvin “Toad” Murray, 88, of Benton, Wisconsin, died Thursday, September 17, 2009 at Manor Care in Platteville, Wisconsin. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 20, 2009 at the Benton United Methodist Church with Pastor Rod Johnson and Rev. Earl Kammerud officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2-7 p.m. Saturday, September 19, 2009 at the Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Benton, Wisconsin. Friends may also call after 1:00 p.m. at the church on Sunday. He was born on November 7, 1920 in Benton, the son of Samuel and Hattie (White) Murray. He married Anna Marie Holt on November 25, 1945, and she preceded him in death on January 26, 2002. “Toad” and his brother “Spike” owned and operated Murray’s Service Station in Benton for 45 years until their retirement. He earned the rank of private first class in the US Army during World War II. Survivors include four daughters, Carol (Don) Diers, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Doris (Lyle) Hoffman, of Platteville, Colorado, Shirley Murray, of Benton, and Mary (Chris) Isabell, of Platteville, Wisconsin; a son, Carl Murray, of Gratiot, Wisconsin; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Mitzi. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a son, Stephen Murray; and two brothers, Nelson “Spike” Murray, and Orthelle “Art” Murray.
