Melvina A. “Vina” Schink, 82, of Cuba City, Wisconsin, died Sunday, January 10, 2010, at Southwest Health Center Nursing Home in Cuba City. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 13, 2010, at Faith Lutheran Church, 120 S. Clinton St. in Cuba City with Pastor Denise Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Cuba City. Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday at Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 123 N. Jackson St. in Cuba City. Friends may also call from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Vina was born on March 12, 1927, in Shullsburg, Wisconsin, the daughter of John “Fizzer” and Ethel (Crippen) Kirkpatrick. The family moved to Darlington when she was twelve years old. She graduated from Darlington High School with the Great Class of ’46. Vina married Robert “Bob” Schink on June 30, 1951, at the Methodist Church in Darlington. Vina worked at the Cuba City Hospital as a nurse’s aide but spent most of her time raising her five boys. She was active in the scouts and in Faith Lutheran Church. After Bob’s retirement they were able to travel the entire country spending winters in Sun City, Arizona. She was happiest when she could be barefoot on the grass with her hands in the soil. Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Bob; three sons, John (Teri), of Boise, Idaho, Guy (Janna), of DeForest, and Robert, of Madison; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Schink, of Potosi; ten grandchildren, Lindsay (Jared) Theunis and Henry,Julia, Ray, Daniel, Josiah, Raechel, Heather, Kirk and Will Schink; three great-grandchildren, Stella and Amani Theunis and Tanner Allbee; a sister, Dorothy Hoppe, of Columbia, Maryland; and two special nieces, Judy Hollenstein, of Janesville, and Linda Stott, of Darlington. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Ila; and sons, Daniel and Thomas. In lieu of flowers, a Vina Schink Memorial Fund will be set up to benefit Alzheimers Research and the Salvation Army.
