Cuba City, Wisconsin Mercedes M. Bertjens, 89, of Cuba City, Wisconsin, died Thursday, December 30, 2010, at Southwest Health Center Nursing Home in Cuba City. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2011, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Cuba City. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday at the church before the service. Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Cuba City is in charge of arrangements. Mercedes was born on September 26, 1921, in Kieler, Wisconsin, the daughter of Henry and Clara (Flogel) Droessler. She married Walter H. Bertjens on November 24, 1942. He preceded her in death on June 18, 2003. Survivors include three daughters, Ann (Fred) Kelly, of Portland, Oregon, Jean (Jack) Guler, of Madison, Wisconsin, and Mary Adele (Don Kramer) Reinhart, of Sacramento, California; a sister, Pauline Schroeder, of Lancaster, a brother, Arvel (Kay) Droessler, of Florida; two sisters-in-law, Juanita Droessler, of Kieler, and Mary Jo Droessler, of Colorado; four grandchildren, Bridget (John) Fulitano, of Portland , Oregon, Garth Kelly, of Honduras, Jamie (Toni) McGee and Jeff (Lisa) McGee, both of DeForest, Wisconsin; and six great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Lorena; six brothers, Cyril, Norbert, Earl, Edmund, Henry and Clair; two sisters, Lillian and Lorraine; three brothers-in-law, Vincent Timmerman, Ervin Schroeder and Harry Fleege; and four sisters-in-law, Irma, Lorene, Margaret and Helen. In lieu of flowers, a Mercedes M. Bertjens Memorial Fund has been established.
